Rennie Leaves

Rennie Curran held a teleconference at 4pm today to announce his decision to either stay or leave for the NFL. Curran has decided to forgo his senior year and enter the NFL draft. Curran said that it was tough decision but thinks it is for the best.

Smart Deal

The contract offer for Kirby Smart from the University of Georgia is being reported to be a 4 year deal worth $3 million. I would have to say that this would make Smart one of if not the highest paid assistant coach. If we do not get Smart we should start serious talks with Will Muschamp as I do not see Mack Brown stepping down for some time.

Rennie Curran Gone

Rennie Curran has dinner with Mark Richt last night and told the coach that he is leaving school. Curran will make the announcement Monday. Coach Rodney Gardner is still trying to convince Curran to wait until the DC is named. However, Rennie said he is 99.9% sure he is gone even if Kirby Smart is hired.

Kirby Smart

David Pollack through his twitter account has stated that Kirby Smart will be the next defensive coordinator for the University of Georgia. Smart was in Athens, Ga the day after the national championship game. Supposedly Mark Richt has officially offered the job to Smart and has provided him with a contract, but the contract has not been signed.

Orson Charles

For a second year in a row, a Georgia offensive player was named to the Freshman All-American Team with TE Orson Charles being selected. WR AJ Green was selected as a Freshman All-American last year.

Florida Recruiting

The Florida Gators landed some big names today on the recruiting trail. Ronald Powell a 5 star DE out of California, Matt Elam a 5 star DB out of Florida and Sharriff Floyd a 5 star DT out of Pennsylvania all chose Florida today at the Army All-American High School Game. This should land the Gators with the number 1 recruiting class as of right now. National Signing Day is on Feb. 3rd.

Tommy Tuberville

Tommy Tuberville, the old Auburn head coach, will be announced as the head coach of Texas Tech in a press conference on Sunday. The deal is supposedly worth 10 million over 5 years. Tuberville is looking at James Willis as his DC.

Pete Carroll

To everyone that has not been watching the sports world the past 36 hours it look like that Southern California coach Pete Carroll has agreed in principle to become the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Carroll coached in the NFL as a head coach for 4 years and had a record a little better than .500. The biggest effect that this will have is in the PAC 10 and in recruiting. Many of USC's recruits that had made verbal commitments and were stunned by the recent changes and are now considering going back on there verbal commitments. This should really help out the PAC 10 teams not to mention the whole NCAA as USC would normally pull recruits from all over the country. As of now Mike Riley, the head coach at Oregon State, is the front runner to replace Pete Carroll.

Marcus Lattimore

Marcus Lattimore the #1 rated RB out of Duncan, SC has taken Georgia off of his short list for potential schools he will sign with. South Carolina, Oregon, Auburn and Penn State are the remaining schools. He still has visits to Oregon and South Carolina before the signing day.

Reshad and Rennie

Reshad Jones today made an official announcement that he would be forgoing his senior year at Georgia to enter the NFL draft. Jones is rated as one of the top 5 safeties in the draft this year.

Rennie Curran was suppose to make his announcement today, but has decided against it and is still undecided. However, most people strongly believe that Curran will be leaving as well.
