Spring Practice: Defense

This is going to be very interesting spring on the defensive side of the ball with the Bulldogs implementing a whole new defense. Besides Bacarri Rambo who has one of the safety slots already most of the positions are going to be up for grabs this spring. Let's breakdown each position and I will give you my personal opinion as to who will start at each position.

Nose: This will be a two way battle between DeAngelo Tyson and Kwame Geathers. Both of these guys have the body to play the nose position. Tyson most likely will get the start due to him having more playing experience. Richt has confirmed that these two will be the primary guys, but don't be surprised if Mike Thornton tries to get some playing time and push these two to bring their best.
Pick: DeAngelo Tyson

Defensive End: Grantham has confirmed that Demarcus Dobbs, Abry Jones, Brandon Wood, Kiante Tripp and Derrick Lott will be playing DE for the Bulldogs. Dobbs and Jones should be getting most of the snaps this fall but look for Derrick Lott to make a run at one of starting positions
Pick: DeMarcus Dobbs, Abry Jones

Outside Linebacker: The players that have been confirmed to be moving to OLB by Grantham are Justin Houston, Cornelius Washington, Richard Samuel, and Montez Robinson. Houston and Washington have been penciled in as the starters for now by Grantham but look for Robinson to really push these guys. He is an absoulet freak coming off the end. If Samuel does not red shirt he could also see some significant playing time.
Pick: Justin Houston, Cornelius Washington

Inside Linebacker: Their will be two positions for the insde linebackers, Mo and Mike. The Mike position will be your defensive captain and be calling all the plays and audibles for the defense. This position is going to manned by Darryl Gamble with the other position going to Marcus Dowtin look for Akeen Dent to make a run at one of the two spots.
Pick: Darryl Gamble, Marcus Dowtin

Cornerback: One of the two spots is locked up with Brandon Boykin as the lone returning start coming back in the secondary. The other spot could go to Branden Smith, Vance Cuff or Sanders Cummings. With Lakatos stating that he liks taller corners don' be surprised to see Cummings or Cuff start in the fall with Smith playing more of a nickel roll.
Pick: Brandon Boykin, Sanders Cummings

Safety: This should be the easiest of all the defensive positions to predict. Bacarri Ramob has one of the spots locked up already. Jakar Hamilton I truely believe will be the other safety. Unless Nick Williams or Alec Ogletree really show something this spring or in the fall these two will be the starters.
Pick: Bacarri Rambo, Jakar Hamilton

Spring Practice: Offense

With spring practice starting in just under 24 hours lets take a look at what position battles will be happening and what out starting lineup could look like. I will be giving my best guess as to who will be starting each position.

Quarterback: Not really to much more anyone can say about this situation. As I am sure eveyone knows Aaron Murray, Zach Mettenberger and Logan Gray are all going to be competeing for the starting position. Most people think it is more of a competition between Mettenberger and Murray, but it is really anyones position to take. I would not be surprised if Mettenberger beats out Murray.
Pick: Aaron Murray

Tailback: Weshaun Ealy and  Caleb King should really put on a good show between the two of them all season. It would a surprise if they is ever a legitimate number 1 next season. They will probably share the load subbing in and out all game to keep fresh legs carrying the ball. Having two backs doing this is real positive when it comes to an opposing team having to prepare for you. They have to prep their defense for two different types of backs.
Pick: Caleb King/Washaun Ealey

Fullback: Shaun Chapas has been the starter the past two seasons and this is his position to lose. The only way he is not starting next year is due to injury.
Pick: Shaun Chapas

Wide Receiver: OK, this is a no brainer.
Pick: AJ Green

Flanker: I view the flanker position as Tavarres King's to lose. King had a good season last year finishing with 18 catches for 377 yards. That is a 20.9 yards per catch average. King should be very careful though as Marlon Brown is really wanting to make an impact this year as is Rantavious Wooten and Israel Troupe. This healthly competition should make everyone better.
Pick: Tavarres King

Tight End: This will be a good battle all spring between Aron White and Orson Charles. Both as are about the same size at 6' 4" 230lbs and could start for m ost SEC teams. Do not be surprisd if you see more two TE sets this year so we can get both of them on the field. With the receiving and route running capabilities of Charles most LB's can not match him man-to-man. This is why I give him a slight edge.
Pick: Orson Charles

Offensive Line; The offensive line should be set for next year unless two things happen. First, Trinton Sturdivant is back at 100%. If this happens then Clint Boling will be moved from LT to RT and Josh Davis will compete for a guard position. Second, we have an injury and then we can address that when it happens.
Picks:
    LT: Clint Boling
    LG: Cordy Glenn
    C  : Ben Jones
    RG: Chris Davis
    RT: Josh Davis
