Bulldogs 64th Best Team in NCAA?

A few days ago Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel wrote a blog post stating that Georgia is the 64th best team in the NCAA. A post like this is nothing more than trying to stir the pot and increase the amount of traffic to your site. Besides Fowler, you could not find another reporter or analyst who would rank the Bulldogs this low. Stating that the Bulldogs are the 64th best team and the Volunteer's are the 72nd team is just laughable. Fowler might as well turn in his degree in journalism from Florida and just start his own personal blog. With a post like this real college football fan will never take him seriously. Yes, I do not like Florida at all but they are a top 25 team and I will admit that to anyone.

An interesting fact about his article is that when you look at Georgia's weakness's they pretty much match Florida's:

1. New QB
2. New Defensive Coordinator
3. Leadership on Defense

All three of these "weakness's" are matched by Florida but something tells me that Fowler will have the Gator's at least in the top 15.

Hunter Long is Lucky Number 13

The Long family now has both of its son's wearing the red and black as Hunter Long verbally committed to Georgia. Long was offered Sunday and knew right away that he wanted to be a Bulldog and play college ball with his older brother Austin.

Long also had offers from Memphis and Southern Mississippi.

Georgia's Next Offer?

Some people of wondering who could be the next recruit to be offered. One recruit who has been making a splash already this summer is Geno Smith.  Smith is  5'11" 160 lb DB out of St. Pius X Catholic HS in Atlanta, GA. Smith has competed in the Atlanta NUC Combine and most recently attended the Mark Richt Camp in Athens. Smith has competed extremely well at both camps and has already been offered by Auburn, Georgia Tech and Louisville, but Georgia is his favorite school.

Watts Dantzler Commits to Georgia

Watts Dantzler just moments ago verbally committed to Georgia. Many fans have speculated that Dantzler has been a silent commit to Georgia for some time. As of now though it is official, Dantzler becomes the 12th recruit to commit to Georgia. Today was only fitting for him to announce his commitment with it being Father's Day as he will be following in his father's footsteps and playing for Georgia.

Watts Dantzler Set to Announce Today

Watts Dantzler the 3 star OT out of Dalton, GA is set to announce his commitment at 4pm today. Many people think that Dantzler has been a silent commit to Georgia for some time now. Dantzler is legacy at Georgia as his late father Danny Dantzler was a letterman at Georgia. With set Dantzler set to announce today and as everyone knows today is Father's Day all signs seem to point to him following in his father's legacy.

Bulldogs Offer Texas Receiver

Ty Montgomery is currently verbally committed to Stanford, many Georgia fans probably recall that Justin Scott-Wesley, a current Georgia commit, was also a Stanford commit. Montgomery drove 14 hours from Dallas, Texas to participate in the Georgia camp. This is pretty interesting a  committed recruit would go to all that trouble just to participate in a camp. Montgomery came away from the camp with a new view on his commitment. He not backing away from his verbal commit yet but, he is definitely keeping an open mind about everything and really enjoyed his visit to Athens.

James Vaughters Commits to Stanford

James Vaughters the number one rated linebacker in the state of Georgia verbally committed to Stanford today. This comes as no surprise as Vaughters had been trying to decide between Stanford and Ohio State but most people were stating in the past week that he was heading to Stanford.

Charone Peake Headed to Clemson

Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs got some bad news as WR Charone Peake announced his verbal commitment to Clemson. Peake has been a Clemson lean for a sometime now but Georgia had made some significant strides in catching up.

Jarvis Jones Newest Bulldog

Jarvis Jones has been on campus with the coaching staff since Monday and has really liked what he saw. In fact he liked it so much he decided he will be a Bulldog next season. This is according to Carver High School head coach Dell McGee. Jones has been medically cleared by the Bulldog staff. He should be able to play immediately, but we will see. If he can play immediately he should be fighting for a starting position.

Jones was suppose to be arriving on Florida State's campus tomorrow but this will not be necessary now.

Watts Dantzler Set Announcement Date

After attending the Georgia camp this past weekend Watts Dantzler has decided to move up the date he will make his verbal announcement. Originally Dantzer had stated that he would be announcing on his birthday but today he has announced that he will be making his verbal commitment on Sunday, Father's Day. Dantzler has narrowed his list to Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Most people believe that Dantzler is a Georgia lean. I would agree with this.

Boise State to Join MWC

Boise State is officially leaving the Western Athletic Conference to join the Mountain West Conference. Boise State has not really had a team that could match it in the WAC over the last few years and was looking for an upgrade in competition. With no BCS conferences calling Boise State decided to join TCU and BYU in the MWC. If Boise State can schedule high quality non-conference opponents and with the upgrade now of their conference play they should be able to attain a shot at a National Championship.

Nebraska to Join the Big-10

Sources out of Lincoln are stating that Nebraska is heading to the Big-10. The formal announcement should be released by late this week or early next week. Most people think that with Nebraska leaving this will be the end of the Big-12 and it is only a matter of time until the Texas schools and Oklahoma leave for the Pac-10.

Jarvis Jones Down to Two

Former USC linebacker Jarvis Jones is down to two schools, Florida State and Georgia. Jones was released from scholarship from USC after he was not medically cleared to play football. Once Jones was made aware of the decision by the medical staff he asked to be released from USC. Since his release he has been searching for schools.

Jones is a Carver HS graduate and could perhaps open the door back up to Georgia. The Bulldogs have had trouble recruiting players from this high school powerhouse and currently are targeting four players, Isaiah Crowell, Gabe Wright, Deion Bonner and Artimas Samuel.

Colorado to Join Pac-10

Rumors are surfacing that Colorado will in fact join the Pac-10. As early as Friday Colorado is suppose to announce that they will be joining the Pac-10. Nebraska is also suppose to be making an announcement within a couple of days that they will either join the Big-10 or stay with the Big-12. Sources close to the Cornhuskers feel that they will be leaving the Big-12. If Nebraska does in fact leave the Big-12 this will mean the end of the current Big-12 as we know it.

Recruits On Campus Tonight

Nick O'Leary and Jacoby Brissett were reported to be on campus tonight. O'Leary is the #3 ranked TE in country and currently holds an offer from Georgia. Brissett is the #23 ranked QB in the country currently holds offers from 12 schools including Florida State, Florida and LSU. Since the Bulldogs have already received a verbal commitment from Christian LeMay, one would have to think that if the Bulldogs did decide to offer Brissett, it would be at a different position.

O'Leary is a legacy at Georgia and the Bulldogs have been trying to get him on campus for a while. Currently most people think that he will not leave the state of Florida but hopefully this trip to Athens will change his mind.

Recruits Visiting This Weekend

There will be two big time recruits visiting this weekend, Stephone Anthony and Jeoffrey Pagan will be in town to visit Georgia and spend some time with the coaching staff. Anthony will be by on Friday and Pagan is arriving on Saturday.

Anthony recently stated that he is very interested in Georgia but Georgia Tech is still the leader. Anthony has plans to visit USC, Oklahoma, Clemson and Virginia Tech this summer. Pagan is a soft verbal to Florida but the coaching staff and Christian LeMay have been talking to Pagan constantly and rumors are starting that he may be starting to lean towards Georgia.

Since Christian LeMay has given his verbal commitment to Georgia he has done as much for Georgia recruiting as anybody else. I have a feeling LeMay will go down as one of the best Dawgs ever to wear the G.

Georgia Lands Nick Marshall

Georgia received a verbal commitment from Nick Marshall late Tuesday night. Marshall is a two sport star that has been recruited by both Coach Fox and Coach Richt. Many people believed that Marhsall was a silent commit to Georgia Tech, if this was true Marshall has changed his mind as he went public with his commitment to Georgia.

Marshall is a quarterback in high school but will be lining up in secondary at corner back for the Bulldogs. With Marshall coming in at 6'2" he is the ideal corner that secondary coach Scott Lakatos has been saying he wants.

Mike Bellamy Commits to Clemson

Mike Bellamy, 5 Star RB, out of Charlotte HS in Punta Gorda, FL has verbally committed to Clemson. Bellamy has drawn comparisons to former Clemson star CJ Spiller., after seeing the success that Spiller had at Clemson, Bellamy can only hope for the same thing.

Why is Florida so High in the ESPN Recruiting Rankings?

ESPN released their initial recruiting rankings earlier this week. Most of them seem pretty accurate with one major exception. Florida is ranked number 7 which makes no sense what so ever. Here is the top 10 for ESPN, I will use the formula I have been using for SEC and lets see how everything turns out.

This really shows that ESPN heavily favors Florida. They only have four commits but are ranked in the top 10 nationally right now for recruiting, that is a little ridiculous.

Combine Numbers

Georgia has offically released the combine numbers from this spring.

A few notes from the 40 times
     Vance Cuff is the fastest dawg posting a 4.24
     C. Washington posted a 4.29 (Personally I think this is inaccurate)
     A. Murray ran a 4.50 which was only 0.02 slower than L. Gray
     T. King and A. Green both posted times of 4.37

A few notes from the Bench Press
     O. Charles did the same number of reps as C. Washington (26)
     T. Sturdivant did the most reps at 31

Zach Witchett Gives The Dawgs Ten

Zach Witchett announced today that he would be verbally committing to Georgia to play football. Witchett is the third receiver to commit to Georgia. The Bulldogs will be light in terms of receivers this year and most likely will be losing All-American AJ Green to the draft after next season. Witchett told Mark Richt and the Georgia coaching staff after the state track meet that he would be committing but wanted to wait and make a formal announcement today.

7 on 7 Camp Day 1

Today and tomorrow Georgia will be holding a 7 on 7 camp in Athens. Here is the list of teams that were in attendance today

The key matchup of the day is when Damian Swann and Charon Peake went up against each other in the semifinals. Swann won this match-up picking off the pass. Swann overall played outstanding and just reinforced why he is the number CB in the state of Georgia.

Tomorrow Carver High School will be in attendance, which includes recruits such as Isaiah Crowell, Gabe Wright and Deion Bonner.

Zach Witchett and Washington HS will also be in attendance and Witchett is planning to announce his verbal commitment.  

Witchett has the same first name as me and is announcing his choice on my birthday with all these signs I am extremely confident that he will be announcing Georgia tomorrow.

Braxton Miller Chooses Ohio State

With Terrelle Pryor going into what could be his final year at Ohio State, depending on how his junior year turns out, the Buckeyes landed who they hope will be his replacement, Braxton Miller. Miller, a 5 star recruit, is ranked as the number one overall QB by Scout.com 

With Miller committing to Ohio State this could work out perfectly for them as this will give Miller at minimum one year to learn the system and learn from Pryor. The ideal situation would be for Miller to red-shirt his freshman year than sit a year behind Pryor as his backup before taking over the reins of the offense.

Updated 2011 Offer Sheet

Mark Richt and the Georgia coaching staff have been busy since April 15th as this was the start of the evaluation period. The coaching staff was able to evaluate talent for four weeks during this time period. Due to these evaluations many more offers have been sent out, however all of these were sent to out-of-state recruits.


My guess here is that the coaches initially were going after who they felt were the top in-state recruits.  During this second round of offers they are going after the top out-of-state recruits they feel would best help them and now when the third round of offers are sent out this summer they will be to the recruits that prove themselves at camp.

On a side note Xzavier Ward will be on campus the next two days visiting.

Apologies

I would like to apologize for the lack of posts this past month. It has been a rather hectic month these past 30 days. I proposed to the love of my life, she said YES and now we are wedding planning already. Work has been extremely hectic and I am redoing my apartment since now their are two of us living there. Not trying to make excuses but I should be back to at least a post a day if not two form here on out.

Here is the most updated recruiting rankings. Auburn and Kentucky both added some pretty solid recruits in the past couple weeks and have been moving up the list. Florida is really surprising me right now as they have not added any recruits in a while.
