How Do You Own Your State? Just Ask Texas

Earlier to day Texas got some good news from Garrett Greenlea, 4 Star OT, out of Klein Collins HS, TX. Then again Texas has been getting good news all year and remember it is not even March 1st yet. The Longhorns have 17 verbal commitments so far for their 2011 class and everyone of them is from the state of Texas. That is 8 more than the closest SEC team, which is LSU by the way. Let's look at the break down of their class so far:

5 Star: 3
4 Star: 3
3 Star: 6
2 Star: 0
1 Star: 5

Don't let those numbers fool you, most of those 1 star recruits will be gaining stars as team camps are completed and recruiting agencies can fully evaluate all the talent. All these rankings are by Scout.com as Rivals.com has not released their rating yet.

Texas has not lost more than 3 games in the last 11 years and has won the Big 12 twice along with one National Championship. Georgia over this same time period has fared about the same losing a couple more games and not winning a National Championship. This biggest difference between the two is rivalry games. Lets look at the records of teh two schools in their rivalry games since 2002. For Texas we will use Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. For Georgia we will use Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia Tech.

Texas:     24-8 with a 4-4 record against Oklahoma

Georgia:  19-13 with a 2-6 record against Florida

Georgia really needs to make sure they knock off the teams that share borders with them or are in-state rivals. These are going to be the teams that year end and year out will be recruiting the same players as them.

On the plus side UGA has four commitments so far and all of them are Georgia. The Bulldogs have given out more offers to players already than last year and of the 59 offers sent out 26 are to Georgia players. The Bulldogs are starting strong this year lets hope that they continue at this pace.
